Life, the essence of all that is and all that will be is always around us, especially in nature. This is why I like to use nature as part of my art in order to express my own philosophy about life. Life is too short and so far I have only experienced 23 years of it. Life itself seems to pass us all by so fast, just like in our dreams. My life has been divided by three countries; China, my homeland; Switzerland, the last years of my adolescence; and the United States. In the U.S., I have had two homes, Reno, Nevada and Davis, California. I feel like Davis is now my home because of the roots I have established here. Yet, I loved my life in China, I missed my life in Switzerland, and my life in Reno Nevada was a turning point for me.

We all stress about life; for me, the idea for a piece of multifunctional furniture would make my life a lot more relaxing. This chair was created during the winter of 2004. It is a handcrafted rocking chair/ tea table created out of natural pine, redwood and wood glue. The four pieces of oval pine symbolize my life in four different places. The two small oval cuts on each of the circular legs express my happiness and sadness in each place. The twenty redwood bars were used to connect the four pieces of oval pine. The eighty notches indicate the number of years I hope to experience in life. And last but not least the twenty redwood bars symbolize my fingers and toes, and without them I would have no life.

Note: This chair was displayed in December 2004 at the 2004 American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) art show in Sacramento, California.
